Virginia General Assembly could see efforts to allow sports gambling, official says

If sports gambling were legalized throughout the state –  the Virginia Lottery could end up being a major player. Kevin Hall, executive director of the Virginia Lottery said, “Let me just pitch on the 30-year history and the brand, the existing retail network and the proficencies we have in marketing. And the fact that we do support policies of social purpose.”

Kansas Lottery and Casinos Transfer a Combined $163.7 Million to State of Kansas in Fiscal Year 2018

Governor Northam Announces Record Year for Virginia Lottery Sales and Profits

“Players continue to support our broad, creative portfolio of fun games while also enthusiastically supporting a great cause—Virginia’s public schools. At the Lottery, we celebrate good fun with a great social purpose,” said Virginia Lottery Executive Director Kevin Hall. “The record $600 million we contributed to public schools this year will help local schools fund child nutrition programs, early reading intervention, career education and other important classroom programs.  The Lottery celebrates its 30th birthday in 2018. The first ticket was sold on September 20, 1988.

There’s room for both the Lottery and casinos, Mary Neubauer, Vice President, Iowa Lottery said, noting that about 70 percent of sports betting worldwide is operated through lotteries.
