INSPIRED’S VIRTUAL SPORTS TAKE THE MAIN STAGE “The Kentucky Derby: Triple Crown Showdown” A Success
“This was a great event for everyone involved — Churchill Downs got to celebrate on their traditional Derby day, racing fans got to see the greatest-of-all-time face off, we had the opportunity to showcase the realism of our Virtual Horse Racing product, and it was all for a good cause,” said Brooks Pierce, President and Chief Operating Officer of Inspired. “Virtual Sports have been popular in Europe for years, but putting together The Kentucky Derby: Triple Crown Showdown for a national television broadcast was a great marketing opportunity for our Virtual Sports in the U.S. In addition to the extensive viewership, social media was abuzz for Kentucky Derby at Home, with 91% positive sentiment before and after the race. This is a great example of how Virtual Sports can plug the gap and bring people together for some relief during these difficult times, just as real sports do.”

Atlantic Lottery business has seen a drop, but not nearly as far as many of the other lotteries across Canada
Atlantic Lottery Corporation CEO Chris Keevill said despite that “quite striking” jump online, overall sales have still decreased 10 per cent. “The Atlantic Lottery business has seen a drop, but not nearly as far as many of the other lotteries across Canada. So, we’ve seen a dip, but not as deep a dip. And one of the reasons, probably the primary reason for that, is Atlantic Lottery has quite a robust digital platform,” said Keevill. “It’s a more developed e-commerce platform for buying your 6/49 or Lotto Max ticket, check your winning numbers, or play a number of digital instant games that are available for play on alc.ca. So, because of that, we’ve seen a big jump in the sign-up for customers on alc.ca, and we’ve seen a big lift in our online sales. So, that has made up for a lot of the dip in the traditional retail space.”

Lottery sales were brisk inside Shaker Quality Foods where store owner Abe Hamed said he’s seen a 30 to 40 percent spike in new and former lottery customers. “We see a lot of new faces, faces we haven't seen for a while, we probably lost those to the casinos,” Hamed said. Those faces included lottery players, many unable to pull the lever of slot machines, snapping up scratch off tickets, or trying their hand at picking the right three digits in the Pick 3 games. Some did it on a hope for riches, others out of boredom.
